CanSkate Program at WFSC
This is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focusses on fun, participation and basic skill development. CanSkate centres on physical literacy and fundamental skills needed to take part in any ice sport or to skate as a recreational activity.
Our Coaches are NCCP trained, Skate Canada certified coaches, who are assisted on ice by trained assistants.
This Program consists of a complete series of balance, control and agility skills, taught in 6 stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating, figure skating as well as general recreational skating.
What can you expect during a CanSkate lesson? Action, Movement & Fun! Lessons are given in a group format, with a coach to skater ratio of 1:10. Skaters progress at their own learning rate, while coaches use teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities to encourage movement and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and report cards are used to benchmark skater's progress and reward effort and participation.
All your need to participate are skates, a CSA-approved helmet, long pants, warm mittens, sweater and/or jacket. Dress in layers - it will get warm!
